Laser scientist receives presidential award
Dr. Greg Pitz from the Air Force Research Laboratory New Mexico was honored by President Obama with a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

Pentagon seeks to build a disappearing battery
The battery, which DARPA calls SPECTRE for Stressed Pillar-Engineered CMOS Technology Readied for Evanescence, is intended to be transformed to a commercial semiconductor maker to turn into a reliable power supply for DARPA customers. Once used, the battery would then self-destruct to avoid falling into the wrong hands.

Improved Technologies for Communications, Imaging & Sensor Systems
A government and industry team led by engineers from the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (AFRL/RX) completed a program to assess, improve, refine, and validate a domestic source of supply for X-Band Gallium Nitride (GaN) Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs).
